2020 Team Cork Satellite Open
BACKGROUND
Over the past 3 years the Team Cork Open has donated over $75,000 to the Patient Assistance Programs at Dana Farber. The Team Cork Open has always been about bringing a group of great people together to share some laughs, have fun, play golf, share a meal, and more importantly support cancer patients in need. Unfortunately like most things the format of this year’s tournament has been impacted by the Covid 19 pandemic and Sandwich Hollows cannot hold any large events in 2020. Team Cork could use Covid as an excuse to cancel the tournament or a catalyst to find a way to hold a different style tournament and exceed last year's fundraising goal. The right path is often the toughest path so needless to say Team Cork has chosen the latter and hold this year's tournament to ensure that the Cancer Patients at Dana Farber receive the financial support they need to focus on what is most important which is winning their cancer battle. The downside like most things is that we will not be able to assemble as a group and share some stories and laughs which I personally will miss the most. The upside is that this year's tournament is a perfect excuse to reconnect with a group of family, friends, share a few laughs, and get out and enjoy a round of golf at a time when we need it most.
THE PLAN
To overcome the obstacles created by COVID Team Cork developed a “Satellite Tournament” concept for the 2020 Team Cork Open. This years format will allow each Team Cork Foursome (Team) to play a “Satellite Team Cork Open” at any course from August 2020 to September 2020. The scores for each foursome will be posted on the Team Cork website so everyone can track how the competition is doing. Since the satellite tournaments will be played on different days golfers can be entered in more than one foursome. Each "Satellite Open" date and location will be posted on the Team Cork Website in the hope that other Team Cork golfers/teams in the area can join in and play on the same day to make each satellite open as large as possible. Since we started Team Cork everyone has been asking "what can I do to help". The answer is become a "Team Cork Satellite Commissioner" and organize Team “Satellite Open” for friends in your local area or course where you belong.
GOLF
Format
The golf format for the “Satellite Tournament” will be similar to all the previous Team Cork Open with a few twists and will be as follows:
Each Team will play in the memory of a cancer patient and have a corporate sponsor.
Each foursome entered in the tournament will play a scramble format.
Mulligans and putting strings will be included in the entrance fees.
The first par 5 on the course will be designated the “one club” hole and each foursome will have to use one club for the entire hole.
A fantasy golf element will also be added to the tournament. Each foursome will select a “Fantasy PGA Golfer” and add the PGA player to their team during a virtual draft held in August (details to follow) prior to the tournament. The total +/- score of the PGA fantasy golfer at the US Open will be added to the Team Cork Open score to determine the total score for the team.
The total score of the team will be used to determine the winner.
Golf Contests
Winning Team will receive the “King George Cup” trophy, “Jacket”, and a dozen Pro VI golf balls for each team member.
Closest to the pin prizes will be awarded on the first four Par 3 holes.
A prize will be awarded for the longest putt during the tournament.
Team prizes will also be awarded to the furthest (distance from the cape cod canal) and to the commissioner of the largest (total number of golfers) “Satellite Open”
Cost
All golfers will have to pay for their own green fee’s at the local course
The suggested donation per foursome is $400 and which includes $50 entrance fee per golfer, $100 team corporate sponsorship, $100 memorial donation. We are asking each team to find a corporate and memorial sponsor. If teams that cannot find a corporate donation or cancer patient memorial sponsor one will be assigned to them by the tournament.
The golfer entrance fee includes:
Golf balls, tees, and a Jimmy Fund Golf Hats.
One putting strings and two mulligans per player
Entrance into the closest to the pin contests
Entrance into the longest putt contest.
Donation to the Patient Support Programs at Dana Farber.

CLOSING
My dad always said two things “people are defined in times of adversity so keep the good ones close” and “the harder you work the luckier you get”. Team Cork is filled with “good ones” who have always been willing to work hard to achieve our fundraising goals so I have no doubt that the Team Cork Family will find a way to make the “Satellite Tournament” concept a success so we can beat last year's $35,000 fundraising goal.
Thank you in advance for your support and we look forward to seeing The Team Cork Family together again as a group at the 2021 Team Cork Open at Sandwich Hollows. Remember to reach out and check in with someone with cancer today!
Thanks,
Cork
