Wellness Day Treatment Descriptions
REIKI
Reiki (ray-kee) which means “Universal life energy” and is also known as Chi or Ji in Japanese, promotes the natural life force energy to flow through the client. The practitioner is trained to detect and alleviate problems with energy flow on the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual level. Similar to massage, Reiki helps to relieve stress, promote relaxation, increase awareness, relieve pain (acute and chronic), increase energy and peace of mind and allow the natural processes of your body to work at optimal conditions. From asthma and arthritis to trauma and recovery from surgery, Reiki is a gentle and safe technique, and has been used successfully in hospital trials. For people suffering from severe conditions, it has been found to be very soothing and reassuring. It has been found to be effective in helping every known illness, including cancer. It may be used in conjunction with all other medical or therapeutic techniques to relieve side effects and promote quality of life. Reiki energy is non-invasive and safe. Reiki can be used by doctors, nurses, psychologists and other health professionals to bring deeper caring into their healing practices.
Qi GONG
QI GONG is also known as Chinese Yoga.
For centuries it has been known to boost the immune system, balance organ energy, promote circulation and reduce inflammation.
Through gentle whole body stretching, slow controlled movements and deep breathing, you will feel the healing energy flow through your body.
ACUPUNCTURE
Acupuncture is a safe, time-tested holistic therapy. Fine needles are inserted at specific points on the body. Acupuncture is recognized by the National Institute of Health (NIH) and the World Health Organization (WHO) to be effective in treating a wide variety of medical problems.
Acupuncture may be used for people with symptoms that include chronic pain, nausea, vomiting, insomnia, depression, anxiety, and fatigue. Acupuncture may be used during or after active treatment – such as surgeries, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, or hormonal therapy – to reduce the side effects of cancer treatments or manage cancer-related symptoms.
CRANIOSACRAL THERAPY
Craniosacral therapy is a gentle hands-on therapy that works with the whole person, not just the head and lower back. When a Craniosacral therapist places her hands lightly on you, she is using them to listen to you in much the same way a counsellor might listen to your words. Your body responds to this sensitive touch by beginning to listen to itself. A feeling that you have been truly heard is a common experience during and after a Craniosacral session.
Because this treatment is non-invasive and subtle, it is ideal for people going through traumatic illnesses or life experiences. It supports the body to recuperate and build up lost energy. People receiving this treatment report they let go of tension and fear and cope better with the difficulties they face.
YOGA
This ancient practice is much more than a form of physical exercise and offers a multitude of benefits. Practicing yoga has the power to enhance patients’ physical, mental, and emotional well-being. Yoga is said to bridge the mind and the body through moving meditations. People report feelings of relaxation, calmness, and increased tolerance from a consistent yoga practice. Yoga reduces stress and anxiety, which in turn reduces heart rate, lowers blood pressure and eases respiration. Our yoga classes are gentle and are tailored specifically for oncology patients.
MEDITATION and MINDFULNESS
In recent years, more people have recognized mindfulness and mindfulness training as a way to decrease stress and increase psychological functioning with cancer patients. Studies find a wide variety of benefits from various forms of meditation that most participants including increased calm, enhanced sleep quality, more energy, less physical pain, and increased well-being. These findings show that through mindfulness, you may be able to enhance your capacity to handle the life stresses that affect the body’s ability to heal.
EMOTIONAL SUPPORT
Team Cork offers both individual and group support to help navigate the emotional challenges faced with a cancer diagnosis.
