About Team Cork
Team Cork Inc. was founded in 2016 by the Curtis family. The charity’s founder, Chris “Corkey” Curtis was diagnosed with Colon Cancer in the spring of 2015, while receiving treatment at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, the idea for Team Cork Inc. was born.
“In March of 2015, I was diagnosed with colon cancer, my family and I have been battling the disease ever since. What started as a routine colonoscopy, turned into what we have dubbed ‘Mr. Toads Wild Ride’. Since my diagnosis I have had too many scans, surgeries, chemotherapy treatments, and appointments at Dana-Farber to even begin to count. There is no way that I would have been able to get through it without the support of my family, friends and the amazing staff at Dana-Farber which we affectionately and collectively dubbed Team Cork” - Chris ‘Corkey’ Curtis
Cancer is one of those life changing events that turns your world around, but for the Curtis family, it has resulted in several positives. Ever since the diagnosis, Corkey has always said “I wish everyone could feel the effects of a terminal cancer diagnosis, without actually being sick. This would allow people to truly focus on the things that matter most in life, which to me is ‘faith, family, and friends’”. We at Team Cork are truly humbled by the family and friends, from every era of our lives, that have reached out to reconnect and support Corkey on this long journey. You cannot take a day off from cancer and the supportive texts, cards, and emails we receive each and every day, letting us know that people are keeping us in their thoughts, give Corkey the courage and strength to LIVE with cancer each day.
One thing we realized very quickly while spending so much time around other cancer patients, is that unfortunately not every cancer patient is blessed with similar support. There is nothing sadder than seeing a cancer patient alone at an appointment, scan, or chemotherapy infusion, so in order to make a difference we decided to start “Team Cork Inc.” which is a registered 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization that was established to provide a friend and support to cancer patients in need.
